White House staff exodus hits Karoline Leavitt’s press team

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is losing another member from her messaging team. 

White House Deputy Press Secretary Abigail Jackson is departing the White House later this month, Axios first reported. 

Jackson, 29, handled some of the Trump administration’s most tenuous policy areas, spanning the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Department of Justice and Congress. 

‘President Trump is the greatest President of my lifetime — it’s been a tremendous honor to work for his Administration and alongside such talented colleagues on behalf of the American people,’ Jackson wrote on X. ‘Looking forward to this next chapter!’

DHS ᴀssistant Secretary for Public Affairs Lauren Bis will replace her in the open role at the White House, according to The Daily Wire. 

She is the latest to depart the White House press shop after a slew of departures. Sonny Joy Nelson, the former special ᴀssistant to the President and Director of Media Affairs, left the White House in May. 

Around this time last year, three White House communications staffers similarly fled the administration for the private sector. 

Former White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications and Personnel Taylor Budowich, Principal Deputy White House Communications Director Alex Pfeiffer and White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Harrison Fields all departed government service in August and September 2025.

The departure comes after White House Director of Media Affairs Sonny Joy Nelson left in May

Jackson will now head to OnMessage Public Strategies, an arm of the Republican political firm OnMessage Inc. 

The firm does messaging work with major Fortune 500 companies and advises Republican campaigns.  

Senior Trump advisor Stephen Miller and Leavitt praised the outgoing spokeswoman in statements to the Daily Mail. 

‘Abigail is a communications powerhouse, demonstrating at all times the highest degree of tenacity, integrity, professionalism and talent,’ Miller said. 

The Press Secretary called Jackson a ‘workhorse’ who has ‘played an invaluable role on my team, working closely with senior administration officials to shape press coverage, and deliver President Trump’s message at the highest level.’

Trump’s administration has seen quite the shake-up in his second year. 

Multiple Cabinet members have resigned or have been pushed out, including former Attorney General Pam Bondi, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-Deremer and more. 

Former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard left her role in June to care for her husband, who is undergoing cancer treatment.
