Olivia Wilde, 42, shares bold advice for Gen Z

Olivia Wilde has shared some advice for Gen Z while promoting her racy new film, I Want Your Sєx.

Speaking to Impact, the 42-year-old revealed what she thinks the younger generation should do to overcome being embarrᴀssed about Sєx.

‘Every embarrᴀssing thing that could ever happen to you is a badge of honor,’ Wilde said.

‘Collect them like awards, go for it. If you live a life without embarrᴀssing moments you’ve lived a boring life and you’ve wasted time.’ 

Wilde plays Erika Tracy, a provocative artist, in the erotic-comedy I Want Your Sєx.

The film is from arthouse director Gregg Araki, who is best known for the 1995 indie cult classic The Doom Generation and 2004’s critically-acclaimed Mysterious Skin.

Wilde’s latest comments come after she reflected on being named the top girl on Maxim’s H๏τ 100 list almost 20 years ago.

In 2009, she posed in a skinтιԍнт white dress on the cover of the men’s magazine to mark the accolade. 

Now Wilde says that she has mixed feelings about the honor, describing it as the ‘most f***** up thing in the world.’

During an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, she explained, ‘I remember my publicist called me and said, you’re number one, do you want to accept it?

‘I remember being like, I understand this is the most f***** up thing in the world, but the part of me that felt who didn’t fit in from high school, the girl who never felt like who fit those standards, who felt awkward and wrong in every way, I know that part of me was like, really? You want me?’ 

The star explained that she didn’t like that her value was ‘entirely dependent on our fickle, subjective definition of beauty.’

Despite this, she acknowledged that the recognition helped her in her acting career. 

‘I got roles upon roles from that. It led to casting,’ she admitted.

‘You have to take responsibility for your participation in that self-objectification.’

After becoming a huge name in front of the camera, Wilde has now diversified her career by moving into directing. 

She made her directorial debut with the teen comedy film Booksmart in 2019, and Wilde explained that she relished the experience.

Wilde previously told The Talks, ‘Directing has been liberating in a way that is very profound because as an actor, you are very dependent.

‘You’re dependent on people choosing you and people projecting a certain kind of definition onto you of a character of what you are,’ she continued.

‘I think it’s quite an enormous responsibility to hold all of those projections.’

She added, ‘With being director, there’s a sense of agency. I think the first time that I called action on my own set of my first film, I felt a thrill of independence for the first time.

‘My value on a set was entirely based on my ideas and if I had an instinct to change a scene, I could do that.’

Wilde’s most recent directorial project is The Invite, which has received rave reviews from critics.

The dramedy, which Wilde stars in with Seth Rogen and Penelope Cruz, follows a bickering couple who are faced with the issues in their marriage after hosting their Sєxually-liberated friends for dinner. 

Wilde also directed the controversial 2022 film Don’t Worry Darling, starring her ex Harry Styles.
