News anchor squeals with delight as fiancé surprises her on-air

A Detroit traffic anchor was met with an early morning rush when her fiancé suddenly appeared to surprise her with a bouquet.

WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) anchor and reporter Ali Hoxie was in the midst of explaining how Tuesday would be her last day as she prepared for her upcoming wedding when her partner, Jeff Adkins, strolled on-set.

Hoxie, 37, couldn’t help but squeal as the scene played out.

The bride-to-be had just finished recalling how the two met during one of her ᴀssignments in 2018 – a story on a business Adkins founded that offers family-friendly ‘ghost tours’ – when she was handed a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

‘Ta-da!’ Adkins, 35, said as the two embraced.

Hoxie exclaimed: ‘Oh my god!’

Morning anchors Keenan Smith, Alicia Smith and Mike Taylor all laughed and smiled as the sweet moment continued.

‘That’s love. That is love!’ Alicia said.

WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) traffic anchor Ali Hoxie was surprised on-air by her soon-to-be-husband Jeff Adkins on Tuesday morning

The spot left the journalist – who had been in the process of explaining how she was set to step away Wednesday to prepare for her wedding – beside herself

‘I do love it that the two of you met on a story,’ she later added.

‘Never could have imagined,’ Adkins said.

Hoxie, meanwhile, was still at a loss for words, struck by the sight of a man who just seconds before she hailed as the ‘love of my life.’

‘How am I supposed to finish reading this!’ she exclaimed as she motioned to the teleprompter.

A visibly elated Hoxie admitted she was ‘shaking’ before joking of Adkins: ‘He’s been scaring me since 2018 with his ghost tours.’

Adkins – one of the cofounders of Detroit Paranormal Expeditions – quipped: ‘You manifested me.’

‘We wish you both the best. You are a wonderful couple,’ Keenan chimed in.

‘Thank you guys so much. We love you all,’ said Hoxie.

The journalist, a native of Grand Rapids, took to social media shortly after the station shared footage of Adkins’ uplifting cameo to its Facebook page.

‘They surprised me good this morning! Thank you so much to the amazing crew,’ she wrote.

Hoxie joined Channel 7 in the summer of 2018. She was promoted to traffic anchor in 2020. She announced her engagement to Adkins on Facebook last year.
